Welcome!

You may be asking yourself, why "Fruit Loops in a Dryer Vent"? How did he come up with that name? Well, let me tell you, it came to me exactly how one might expect. I was at home with the kids one day, doing some laundry, and was frustrated because the terrible-twosome was going at it like the Von Ericks and the Freebirds, not to mention I really just hate doing laundry. So as I am yelling at them to stop fighting for the 47th time, I reached down, grabbed the dryer vent filter, and yanked it out real fast sending Fruit Loops flying all over the laundry room. I started laughing and realized that this was probably God's way of telling me to chill out a little bit. After picking up what seemed like an entire bowl of cereal, I thought "that would make a great name for a blog!" The rest is history.

My name is Ed Black and I am currently a stay-at-home dad, full-time college student, retired police captain, and loving husband. I wear a lot of hats and love every one of them. In December 2018, I retired from the Kaufman, Texas Police Department after 22 years of service. I started out as an unpaid reserve officer and worked my way up through the ranks to the position of Captain over the Criminal Investigations Division. My main passion was always criminal investigations, although I loved working the streets. To retire as the commander of that division was a dream fulfilled and one that I am very proud of.

This is a two-sided blog project. Throughout this blog I will write about my career, tell war stories, complain about the lack of respect for police nationwide, and basically "speak my mind" on all things law enforcement. The other side will be my adventures as a father to 3 amazing children, 2 of which live at home. My oldest is grown, married, and is the world's greatest 4th grade teacher. If you don't believe me just ask me and I'll tell you.

I won't lie, I am terrified of my children; especially my 12-year old girl child. She is cranky, moody, and smarter than me and that makes me nervous. My baby boy is 6-years old, hilarious, full of energy, and is smarter than me and that makes me nervous. Their mother is the most beautiful woman on the planet. She is very successful, she is talented, and for some reason she likes me a little bit. I have no clue why, but I don't ask her. I don't want to bring too much attention to that issue because I don't want to take a chance on her suddenly realizing how much better she could do.

I hope you enjoy my writing. I thrive on feedback so feel free to comment on posts. If you would like to be notified when I publish a new post, simply add your email in the box at the bottom of the Home page. If you enjoy the site please share it with all of your friends and family and ask them to visit. Now, I have to go, the dog just ran through the dining room with a bag of Cheetos in his mouth.
